FTP – What is FTP?

An acronym that stands for File Transfer Protocol is used for transferring files from one computer to another computer on a network. With the help of FTP you can exchange files between different computer accounts and also engage in transferring files between a desktop computer and an account. With the help of FTP you can also have access to online software archives.

One thing that the user needs to bear in mind is that majority of the FTP sites are used heavily and hence one needs to be patient till they get connected. FTP users should authenticate themselves by making use of a sign-in protocol that has clear text but can connect anonymously if the server is set up to allow it.
