We believe that organisations like Palace for Life can compel individuals to donate their time and money by telling a story that engages them emotionally.
We therefore worked with the Palace for Life team to craft a narrative that sets out the difficulties faced by many young people growing up in South London, while highlighting the hopeful and transformative role that Palace for Life has played in changing many lives.
Palace for Life is the official charity of Crystal Palace Football Club and it is rooted in the South London community.
Following the projects we delivered for Local Trust and Farm Africa, Palace for Life was the latest in our series of ‘Charity Discount’ projects whereby we offer charities who qualify a 50% discount on our fees.
Like all our work at The Web Kitchen, the project began with a deep-dive into every element of the Palace for Life organisation, seeking out opportunities to create a meaningful difference through our work.
One outcome of that research was our strategic recommendation to make a substantial shift in communications at Palace for Life. Believing in the power of narrative, we recommended the development of a clear way to describe their impact on the lives they touch.
Having attained approval for this strategic approach, we wrote a narrative that was reviewed and ultimately approved by a range of stakeholders.
This became the north star for the website as well as their wider external comms.
With the narrative agreed upon, our next challenge was how to communicate it to website visitors in the most exciting and dynamic way possible, in order to give it the best chance of landing with the target audience, engaging them to find out more and ultimately feel compelled to donate time or money.
We created a ‘scrollytelling’ digital experience on the homepage that delivers our narrative in bite-size chunks alongside visuals and animations that support the story.
While returning ‘goal oriented’ visitors may go straight to the menu to find the content they seek, first time ‘browsers’ are engaged in the story being told.
The website features varied pages throughout, each designed specifically for the content of that page. The South London in Numbers page for example tells the story of the difficulties facing young people in many communities in South London.
Meanwhile the Our Impact page showcases the tangible difference that Palace for Life make to young lives through the work they do.
