Prix Pictet
Le Prix Pictet is a major global prize in the field of photography which focuses on sustainability… possibly the single most prominent issue in the 21st century. The global prize is sponsored by Pictet & Cie conjointly with the Financial Times. The website had attracted around 5,000 visitors per day in the first year itself. As the competition is run on the online platform, the nominators submit the photographers and they in turn submit their respective works. The judges evaluate the work of all these photographers. The Prix Pictet rewards those photographers whose images recount stories of immediate global significance with an annual prize amount of CHF 100,000. And the theme for the year 2008 was water.
Entry into this competition is through nomination. And the panel is headed by 40 experts who are leading in the field of visual arts and they hail from different continents. This body has already kick started the search for set of images which will reflect the artistic quality and the power they are looking for. Names of the photographers whose work is short listed is announced at a scheduled time and the images are open to the public on the website. Public is free to cast their vote in favor of the images and these votes are also taken into consideration when the jury gives out their final decision.
